Spinning Star Doily Piece

Let’s assume that a small doily is to be made out of the Spinning Star pieces above. Four pieces will be put together in form as follows:

Motif 2:

  • Rows 1 – 14: Work as for first motif.
  • Row 15: [Into next loop work dc-4 a picot and dc-3] twice, dc 1 into each of next 3 tr, ch 3, dc 1 into any corner picot on 1st motif, ch 3, sl st 1 into last dc on 2nd motif [a joining corner picot made], dc 1 into each of next 2 tr [4 dc into next loop, ch 1, dc 1 into next picot on 1st motif, ch 1, sl st 1 into last dc on 2nd motif—a joining picot made, dc 3 into same loop] twice, dc 1 into each of next 3 tr, a joining corner picot, dc 1 into each of next 2 tr, complete as 1st motif.

  • Complete as first motif.
Make 2 more motifs, joining adjacent sides as 2nd motif was joined to 1st. Where 4 corners meet join 3rd and 4th corners to joining of previous 2 corners to make a square.

This project can be made larger if desired by making more motifs and joining them in the same way. Thicker yarn may be used with a larger needle to give the motifs and project an entirely new look.

Remember, the pieces can be fit any way at all. This four-leaf-clover item is only one of many ways. Fit them together to make any sized table runners, doilies, or tablecloths.
