Each of these little "spinning-wheel" doily-type pieces can be used in many ways. Connect them to make any sized doily, runner, or tablecloth.

The Spinning Wheel motif is a popular crochet pattern to use with crochet thread (doily) or even thicker thread to make a throw.

This motif measures 2 ½ inches in diameter.

This is a Spinning Wheel doily piece.

Spinning Wheel Motifs Joined

Let’s assume that a small doily is to be made out of the Spinning Wheel pieces above. Four pieces will be put together in 4-leaf-clover form as follows:

Spinning Wheel Motif 2:

  • Rows 1 – 5: Work as for first motif.
  • Row 6: sl st into next tr, slst into next sp, ch-3, tr-2 into same sp, ch-1, sl st into any sp on first motif, ch-1, tr-3 into same sp on 2nd motif [dc-1 into next sp, tr-3 into next sp, ch-1, slst-1 into sp on first motif, ch-1, tr-3 into same sp on 2nd motif[ twice. Complete as first motif.

Make 2 more motifs, joining to make a square, having 2 sps free between the joinings.

Filling To Join Motifs

  • Attach thread to first free sp to left of any join on inside edge, ch-6, *dtr-1 into next free sp, ch-1; rep from* 6 times more, slst-1 into 4th of 6 ch.
  • Fasten off.

This project can be made larger if desired by making more motifs and joining them in the same way. Thicker yarn may be used with a larger needle to give the motif an entirely new look.

Remember, the pieces can be fit any way at all. This four-leaf-clover item is only one of many ways. Fit them together to make any sized table runners, doilies, or tablecloths.
